For a while now I've been picking up pizza at Pizza Hut and today I remembered seeing this family operated restaurant. I picked up a thin crust pizza which smelled heavenly. The appearance of the pie was so good I dove in and my taste buds exploded. What a wondrous gooey goodness. A medium pie was twenty bucks and boy was that money well spent.

I recently moved to Downers Grove from the south burbs in November and was in need of some good, quality pizza. The south side has so much to offer and I didn't think any place around here would come close. I saw a few reviews for Tortorice's and decided to try it out. To simply put it. Amazing. So far, I have only had their thin crust, but it is fantastic and their prices are insanely cheap for what you're getting. A 2-topping 16" pizza...only $16-18?! That's awesome. It feeds my wife and I for a few days! Also, their cheesy garlic bread is to die for. It is basically the size of a small pizza, but all garlic bread sticks topped with cheese. Get the marinara. This place is amazing....and those holiday phone greetings are hilarious!

Ordered up an extra thin crust pizza, Tortorice's style (sausage, onions, green peppers, and mushrooms) since it's the classic set of toppings we love. We actually decided to go with Tortorice's for a couple reasons. 1. High reviews on Yelp. 2. We had a coupon in the mail. 3. They stated clearly on their website they use FRESH mushrooms.... you know where this is going... 4. They have an extra thin crust, which is claimed to be crispy. Let's look at number 3. We start eating the pizza, and the mushrooms unfortunately are canned. For those mushroom lovers out there, you know exactly what I mean when I say that you can tell the difference... canned mushrooms tend to be "mushier" and have a very thoroughly solid texture due to how long it's been in the water. These were NOT fresh mushrooms. And number 4... since this is a takeout place, my fear was that the pizza sitting in the box would cause the thin crust to go soft due to the heat being trapped. Unfortunately, my fears were founded. I'm sure it's a hard balance between keeping the pizza from cooling off completely by leaving it out and having it in the box but having the steam effect the crust. As we chowed down in the car and at home, the crust was limp unfortunately. On the plus side, the toppings were generous (even the canned mushrooms) and the service was friendly. The sausage was tasty, and not overly fennel laden, but had it's own subtle flavor... Verdict: We were excited to try a great crackly thin crust pizza (my wife's favorite style) but unfortunately, the experience was marred by canned mushrooms and limp crust. Limp things in general just detract from experiences in life.. don't you agree?

First time ordering from Tortorice's tonight and we loved it! We received a flyer with coupons in the mail so we decided to try something new-- glad we did! We ordered a thin crust pizza (half sausage and mushroom, half pepperoni) and it was just superb! The ingredients tasted so fresh, the sauce delicious, and the cheese just right. Even though it was delivered, it literally tasted like it came right out of the oven at the restaurant. In addition to the pizza, we ordered some garlic breadsticks and they were just as awesome (excellent marinara dipping sauce). Delivery took a bit longer than most but it was well worth the wait-- quality MATTERS! The prices are more than reasonable and coupons just make the deal even sweeter. Can't wait to try their food and different pizza styles next time! Overall we fully enjoyed our order and we will definitely be ordering again! This might even be our new go-to pizza place! Thanks Tortorice!

Got some coupons in the mail or newspaper for Tortorice's. Since we're in the delivery area, let's give 'em a try. We're glad we did. We now have another pizza place to order from that actually has good pizzas that are delivered in good condition and on time. Our order was on a Friday evening about 5:15. The pizza got to us by 6:00. Hot and tasty, the 2 pizzas we ordered, a 10" and 12" had just the right amount of toppings and a good ration of toppings and cheese and sauce. The thin crust is a tiny bit on the thicker size - about 1/4", but firm and not at all soggy. Good stuff for the tummy!

I just moved to Downers Grove and love pizza. This little place is excellent. The quality of food as well as the prices are unbeatable. I have had a regular thin crust half sausage pizza. It was a very good pizza with tons of cheese! I have also had the lasagna and the shrimp dinner. Both were very good. I am amazed by the pricing and the quality of food. I have found my pizza place!

Fellow yelped identified this place as a great pizza joint.... And that is correct! We had the extra thin crust cheese pizza and were not disappointed ! Great technique with cheese all the way to the edges and perfectly done. Sauce was delicate and slightly sweet. Very few places provide a stellar extra thin crust and I highly recommend Tortorices!

It is the best pizza place in the Chicagoland area! Their service is great, owner is almost always there and fun to talk to. Their pizza and breadsticks are to die for!! Great food, very reasonable pricing, and great service. I just wish they had the space to dine-in as the decor is the best I've ever seen! I love to just sit there and wait for my food to be ready. Definitely recommend!!

I will not order from anywhere else! This is the best pizza around. The ingredients are always fresh and the pizza is ALWAYS good. The Tortorice Special is a favorite of mine and my family's but the spinach & tomato is killer too! I also had them cater a party for me. The chicken was outstanding and the ravioli fresh and delish (the spinach ravioli is insanely good and it's not that fake green-colored stuff---there's actually spinach inside!) The sauce is fresh too. The owners and staff are always happy and friendly; both brothers that own the place are typically always there and easy to talk to and work with. This is a gem in Downers Grove!

We have been trying to find a good pizza in the area since we moved to the area in January of 2013. I can't believe it took this long to find a good pie. This will be our go to place from here on out!

I'm liking these guys. I ordered a large cheese and sausage pizza, the ribs, and the fried mushrooms. Pizza is instantly in my top five in the area. The ribs were very good, and just a little spicy, (reminded me of Mr. B's ribs from years ago), just the way I like them. The order of mushrooms was huge for the price, and came with dressing of my choice. (ranch this time) The phone person was polite and fast, and asked every required question, and got everything right. Everything was still very hot when it arrived, (just a little bit later than when the operator said, but it was Saturday night after all.) Giving 4 stars because I have to try the pepperoni before I give it a 5. This place is a keeper, check it out.

Not a bad pie by any means, but very average suburban pizza. Much better than the Domino's or pizza hut, but not even scratching at the elite pizza places doors. Stated both times I ordered "hour to hour and fifteen for delivery." that time frame seems absurd to me given modern ovens cook any type of pizza within 25 minutes. Either way, the best part about this place is the name and the fact you can call and ask them "is this tortice's pizza?" and let them correct you. I can hardly keep from laughing when I do it!

We were driving through Chicago and had to try a deep dish, but it was super late and we picked the closest place to us. Little did I know it takes a while to cook a deep dish (makes sense), and it's a huge amount of food. Despite that I still ate the pizza at 10pm after an 10 hour drive, and it was worth it. The guy working there was pretty cool as well.

Bang solid thin crust pizza! Ok, I have missed thick/stuffed being out of the area for 25 years but have to say, was in the mood for a thin choice today and picked our new friends from Tororices this evening before the Hawks game and ... yes I am duly blown away! Awesome flavor profile, speedy delivery and I must say 100% spot on for what I expect for a midwest pizza. Sausage that tastes like it should, mushrooms that taste like mushrooms and onions that seem to be fresh for the pie. Good job my new friends!

Was excited to try but was highly disappointed. Delivery to my hotel......i specifically asked for carryout plates and utensils. After an almost 90 min wait, the food finally arrived. No plates/utensils. Cold pizza. I asked for a specialty pizza plus jalepenos.........all i received was a cheese and jalepeno pizza. The 2 liter of Dr Pepper was good though - no complaints there.

Stick with ordering pasta only - our apps were gross (breaded mushrooms were soggy) and the breadsticks are just simply not good. The pizza was mediocre, but the lasagna was delicious. Can't say we will try again.

Have been ordering from Tortorice's for years. Pretty much same thing every time, and the problem is the inconsistency with the quality. When the lasagna is good, it's very good. And when it's bad, it's almost inedible. Same with the panzerotti. The last one we ordered was delivered dripping in so much grease, that we were told to get paper towels so the delivery guy could hand it over. The garlic bread was also unusually greasy. Like two giant croutons (you know the ones!). I know better than to eat that, but my husband trusted them, and was completely sick the following day. He even called, and was told, "Someone will call you back". But that was three days ago, so I don't expect they will. Extra star for past great experience. Low rating for inconsistency and poor recent experience over and over. Unfortunately, after years of loyal ordering, we've formally decided it's time to move our business elsewhere.

The pizza was amazing. Just enough sauce, thin crispy crust, and they are very generous with the toppings.

Hands down the best thin-crust pizza in the U.S. Their staff takes attention to customer details without request. Friends will often times recommend other pizza places, but all recommendations fall short of what Tortorices delivers. Thanks for the many great pizzas guys!
(5)
Brian B.
OK wings, if you asked for them breaded they're drenched in Frank's buffalo sauce. Don't bother getting them if they don't come breaded. Then you realize how small amount of chicken actually getting. Thin crust pizza is average

My husband and I get pizza from Tortorice's every so often, but this time around decided to try some other options for a small birthday gathering. We ordered for about 20 people and got the chicken, beef, and pasta in addition to the pizza. Everyone was asking where the pizza, chicken, and beef were from. Even more rave reviews regarding the chicken and beef. (Pasta was your average pasta). Prices were VERY reasonable. We would definitely do this again with them!

I expected more from this place. I ordered the Godfather steak sandwich which is supposedly one of their specialities. I got the sandwich one hour later after I placed the order (I dont mind delivery time) and it came all soggy with the steak not coocked. The fries were old and soggy as well. The Cole slaw had a very weird smell too. I would expect more for a $12 dollar sandwich order. Very disappointed.

I've only had this place for delivery, but the product is consistently good. I've only had the thin crust, and it's one of my favorites. The crust is crunchy, maybe a little less than 1/4 of an inch thick. They layer on perfect proportions of sauce and toppings, and the whole pie has a really good flavor. Definitely one I'd recommend for delivery, but be aware they rarely take less than an hour.

i have had many pizzas here and all have been great! I have also had a few of the appetizers and the vegetable sampler is good along with the mushrooms, I recommend staying away from the calamari.

This is a takeout place only. We ordered the lasagne and the stuffed shells. First of all their customer service is excellent. Our order was a little delayed and they were very apologetic. The food was outstanding.. More than enough for two people. In fact one order of food plus a salad would be a satisfactory dinner for two. Also comes with AWESOME garlic bread. YUM. I'll be back. *Really cute Halloween decorations and cute phone message.* Try It !!

This pizza is nothing to really write about. I mean if I went to a friend's house and they ordered pizza from here, I would eat it. But there is no need for me to order from Tortorice's Pizzeria again. I've had their pizza on two separate occasions and both were just okay. I always order the plain cheese first (from any pizzeria); this gives me the chance to really "taste" the pizza. If the plain cheese flavor doesn't stand out as delicious, there's no reason for me to try any toppings (toppings just mask the flavor of the cheese and sauce). Don't get me wrong. I like toppings, but only if the sauce and cheese are superb. Not a fan of their sauce or cheese.

Tortorice's is hands down the best pizza I've had in the area, so far... They are consistently good. Cheesy with a fantastic sauce, great crust, perfect ingredients, and always fresh. I've been trying to find a better pizza in the area and have yet to find anything that comes close. Highly recommended

It's like an old time friend, always there when you need it, and consistent. The taco pizza is pretty addicting, and the jalapenos on it add a nice bit of edge. There's no chips on it, but it's pretty damn good. A nice Friday night pizza to have with some beer and then pass out on the couch from your overstuffed pregnant appearing belly bloated with taco goodness. Is that a run-on sentence? Well, the pizza is damn good. 'Nuff said. One of the better pizza places in the area. Try it I tell you.

This place is awesome. I just moved to the area from Chicago and I have to say, they have some of the best pizza I've ever had. Thin crust is my favorite but you can't go wrong with their deep dish or double dough. Definitely recommend.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE! My job is 2 minutes away from here so we order from them all the time. I even order a pizza from here so I can take it home. The pizza is really cheesy and full of toppings. The restaurant itself has no place to eat since it's just take out or delivery. I love the spinach and pepperoni combo. I've also had spinach and tomatoes and it was really delicious. I've heard from my coworkers that they have good food there too, but I've yet to taste it since I love the pizza so much!

We order from here frequently - they do not have a restaurant; it is take out or delivery only. The pizza is excellent. They have great stuffed pizza and for something different try the picasso pizza. It is two layers of dough with sauce and cheese in between and then like regular pizza on top. It is my favorite there. I am not the biggest fan of their regular, thin crust pizza but when I am really looking for some serious pizza I go here. They also have great daily specials on regular food items such as ribs, pasta, sandwiches, etc. They have never messed up my order, and delivery on time with piping fresh pizza.

Great stuffed pizza (not deep dish pizza, stuffed pizza, there is a difference!) After eating a slice of Giordano's soggy stuffed pizza once, I swore off stuffed pizza thinking they were all soggy and gross :/. But Tortorice's stuffed pizza is great: no sogginess, great flavor, very filling. Just one slice will make you full! Order their signature specialty stuffed pizza and your mouth and tummy will thank you. Service is great, and they'll always call you to let you know your pizza just came out of the oven and is heading out the door to your home :).

This place is incredible. Staff if phenomenal, family owned, great pizza. Anything you get here is great. Personal favorite: garlic butter pizza, yes with the sauce too. I promise it won't kill your breath too bad! But it is so good! Fried dough or pastry puffs or what ever the menu calls it, are something I wish heaven has. Pro tip: get an order of breadsticks with cheese, and a marinate or pizza sauce on the side for a cheap dinner for 1 that easily becomes tomorrow's dinner too!

I tend to be suspect of anyplace that goes around rubberbanding their flyer to private homes, i.e. trespassing and making it easy for burglars to know if no ones home. Their pizza tends to be on the high salt side, which indicates to me that old ingredients are being used.

My boss told me about this place and she was right...some of the best pizza I've had since moving up here from Florida last November. I have absolutely no issues w/the pizza,service,price,nada...wish they had a sit down restaurant, and I'll enjoy the leftovers!

When I moved into Downers Grove, one of the few things the previous owner left in the house was a take out menu for Tortorice's. What a score! I've never been to the restaurant, if they even have one, but I've had 30+ of their pizzas, so I know their product. Many different crust choices, quality toppings and several great sauces to choose from. I prefer the Chicago Style deep dish, comes with a spicy sauce that'll knock your socks off. Thin crusts have always won kudos from friends too! I'd have given them 5 stars, but I hold that ranking for the original Uno's and no one else. EAT MORE PIZZA!

I've tried a number of pizza places since I moved to Downers Grove two years ago. I've been searching for the next Dinico's (great pizza in Berwyn) but I haven't found it. Tortorice's is the closest I've found. I've had pretty much every type of pizza they offer and they're all great. The Picasso is a personal favorite of mine, but they have great deep dish and thin crust too. Also, they have a good selection of sandwiches and pasta dishes. The folk's as Tortorice's are always friendly and deliver my food quickly. They're pretty much the only place I'll order a pizza from as long as I live here.

I've only tried one kind of pizza here but it was delicious again and again. Do yourself a favor and try the double dough crust, its uber-filling and really good. Also, +points for being clean and a friendly owner whom I talked to for 5 minutes whilst waiting for my pizza. Only a take-out/deliv but dont let that discourage you!
(4)
Yhatzina L.
Their pizza is way better than Uno's! Yum!! I would highly recommend their pizza and the service is impeccable! They deliver to Downers Grove, and Woodridge and they send out nice flyers with coupons. Their pizza is by far the best I have had, I love their thin crust as well as Chicago Style deep dish. The delivery drivers are timely and professional and the ones who answer the phone are always courteous and knowledgeable. Tortorices leaves nothing to be desired, their pizza hits the spot every time! Open until 11 p.m. on the Weekends!

this is the worse pizza i have ever had, well maybe a frozens jacks pizza is the worse. but this is pretty awful. i dont know where the others that have written reviews have had pizza, but if they think this is the best, my condolences to your taste buds. the pizza is flavorless, cheese is made by firestone, its so rubbery! what really ticked me off though was the extra charge for anchovies and there were just a few pieces of anchovies spread around the outer edge, the center of the pizza had none. some wrote that its pricey, thats the only accurate description. i guess when you read the reviews and see the kind of "pizza" these 6 had, its no wonder they dont know pizza. what a waste of 20 bucks, but you live and learn, never again for this place! next time i would rather buy a frozen connies pizza instead of this merde. by the way, i am 58, so have had my share of GREAT pizza, and being italian i know whats supposed to taste good. this wlll make great snacks for my dogs maybe.

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

This pizza is my favorite and awesome staff! I'm in love with their pizza!!! I am so happy I gave them a try and totally recommend them if you are a pizza person.
